About the Role:

We are seeking an analytically minded Compensation Business Partner to join our Compensation Team supporting Gusto’s technical teams. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing, developing, and implementing compensation programs and policies to ensure they are competitive, equitable, and align with Gusto’s goals and compliance requirements.

About the Team:

Gusto’s People team is growing and scaling with the company!  As our business scales and becomes more complex, and as we add hundreds of new Gusties each year, we need to ensure that our compensation programs evolve and scale in a values-driven manner to attract, retain, and motivate Gusties.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Act as the primary compensation partner for recruiting teams, HR business partners, and organization leaders, leveraging comprehensive knowledge of compensation principles and market dynamics.
  • Develop and execute innovative compensation strategies to attract and retain top talent, aligning with market trends, internal equity, performance-based pay principles, and Gusto values.
  • Provide guidance and support on various compensation-related activities, including new hire offers, analysis of recruiting trends, promotions, international pay, and performance-related compensation decisions.
  • Foster a culture of continuous analytics, regularly monitoring and enhancing existing compensation programs to align with Gusto’s strategic objectives and effectively attract, engage, and retain top talent.
  • Conduct annual benchmarking of job roles to ensure competitive compensation structures.
  • Assist in the implementation of ongoing compensation programs and tools, offering deep insights to support informed compensation decisions by organizational leaders.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine the job architecture and job leveling approach to facilitate effective hiring, career advancement, job evaluation, and the delivery of competitive compensation packages.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to establish appropriate budgets for compensation programs.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 5 years of corporate and/or consulting experience in compensation, demonstrating progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong expertise in developing compensation models in support of annual compensation cycles, benchmarking, and ad-hoc request.
  • Knowledgeable about industry trends and developments in compensation, including relevant legal considerations.
  • Familiarity with multiple benchmarking surveys and methodologies, as well as job evaluation techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex compensation concepts to senior leaders and partners.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $144,000 - $178,000/year in San Francisco. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
