POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Compensation oversees the planning, development, implementation, and management of F5’s global compensation program, including base pay and global short-term and long-term incentive programs. This role is responsible for global broad-based compensation strategy and execution. The Director, Compensation will work closely with HR, Finance, Legal, and other leadership teams across F5 to ensure our ability to attract, motivate, and retain talent.

Reporting to the VP of Total Rewards, this position will provide expertise, innovative thinking, and strategic leadership in the overall management of F5’s compensation programs. The Director of Compensation will stay current on market trends, best and next practices, pending legislation, and regulatory requirements impacting global compensation practices and policies. This role will ensure F5’s compensation program supports a high-performance, human-first culture and aligns with the organization’s people strategies.

This collaborative, hands-on role provides consultative support for client groups within F5, working with the Total Rewards Team, HR Business Partners, Recruiting, Talent Team, managers, and business leaders.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evolve, develop, and execute innovative and competitive compensation strategies designed to attract, motivate, and retain talent
  • Lead benchmarking, compensation structure, and job structure/leveling activities, ensuring we have the data and processes in place to stay competitive with the market in all our global locations
  • Play a key leadership role in our job architecture initiative to re-design our structure, and support implementation and change management
  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of compensation planning cycles, including base pay, equity, and bonus processes
  • Oversee and guide our compensation transparency journey and pay equity approach
  • Consult with HR, Business Leaders, and Executives to understand their strategic priorities and business objectives; leverage this insight to develop and transform compensation programs to support our overall business objectives
  • Ensure alignment of the Compensation philosophy and strategy with human-first and high-performance strategic objectives
  • Responsible for developing pay budget and compensation program guidelines based on benchmark information
  • Partner with HR team to support ongoing compensation needs and provide advice and counseling to managers on pay decisions, policy, and guideline interpretation
  • Play a key role in the design and management of our long-term incentive plans (RSUs)
  • Partner with Talent Management, HR, and business leaders to integrate performance management practices with compensation to foster a high-performance culture
  • Coach, mentor, motivate, develop, and lead the compensation team
  • Stay current with the latest compensation trends, market practices, regulations, and competitive intelligence; recommend enhancements or changes to current compensation programs, policies, and processes
  • Monitor legal and regulatory environment impacting compensation and ensure compliance with changing compensation and pay equity landscape
  • Partner with VP, Total Rewards in support of Executive compensation and M&A activity
  • Develop analytics and modeling for compensation programs and communicate results to leadership, including our executive team
  • Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • In-depth knowledge of broad-based compensation practices, policies and philosophies is required
  • Exceptional communication and people skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Strategic problem solver with strong analytical and project management skills
  • Record of successfully balancing strategy development with operational effectiveness
  • Engaging leader who is authentic and able to inspire others to be their best through leadership and coaching
  • Advanced Excel and HR systems skills and experience
  • Highly adaptable, and able to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable rolling up sleeves in a hands-on work environment
  • Ability to work with ambiguity
  • Experience with Workday and PayScale or similar tools preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of experience in Compensation
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • Experience in global compensation
  • Previous experience in the technology software industry is preferred
  • CCP or GRP preferred

The annual U.S. base pay range for this position is: $185,600.00 - $278,400.00

F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
